I haven’t written in over a month. When I launched this blog, I set out to write multiple times a week. I started strong, posting nearly everyday or every other day. Then I let life take over. How many times do we say, life is just hard sometimes? I know I’ve said it more times than I’d care to admit.
You might be thinking, why is it a big deal if you don’t write that often? You must think awfully high of yourself. Absolutely not. I am a nobody. But that’s exactly who God uses! He has given me a gift and I know that He wants me to use it for His purpose.
The Holy Spirit has been speaking words to my heart and I’ll make a million excuses for not taking the time to dig in. Each time, I hear, but God. Every reason for not heeding to His voice, but God. You see, that’s what the Holy Spirit does. He intercedes on God’s behalf, helping to guide our lives. Romans 8:27-28 says, “And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Let’s look at the first part of Romans 8:28, specifically. ‘And we know that for those who love God.’ What does it mean to love God? We know many will say they love God, but simply saying you love God and actively loving God are separate actions. When we actively love God, we pray for His presence in our life and we study His word. Hebrews 4:12 clearly explains why we need to be in His word, “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Additionally, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” The Holy Bible is our guide to life! Consequently, when we are rightly loving God by seeking Him, we know He will work all things together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose!
We live in a world of distractions. I have a stressful job; I have 2 young kids; a husband and home to tend to; I’m exhausted. We all could write some variation of that list. However, our excuses, and that is exactly what they are – whether we want to admit it or not, are not a justification for letting God slip from his rightful spot in our life! He should be guiding our life, not an afterthought when we’ve run out of other options. When the trials of life inevitably bring us down, 1 Chronicles 16:11 tells us, “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” He is faithful to be present in our lives when we invite Him in.
As I’m writing, the song, ‘Only Jesus’ by Casting Crowns keeps coming to me. It says, in part, “I don’t want to leave a legacy, I don’t want them to remember me, only Jesus.” When I leave this world, I don’t people to say, Erica loved to write. I want them to say, Erica wrote about what she loved and she loved Jesus and lived for Him! I will post a link to the song below – it’s worth a listen.
I encourage you to seek the Lord and His purpose for your life. I assure you – you have a purpose! One of my favorite verses is Psalm 37:4. It says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Pray, study and live according to His word, and He will reveal Himself to you.
Until next time,
