This is the Fight of Our Lives

By now, most have heard the song ‘Old Town Road.’ If you don’t know it by name, you know the hook…’gonna take my horse down to old town road, gonna ride til I can’t no more.’ It was a huge hit a couple years ago, featured in commercials, movies, etc. Kids, in particular, loved it because it had such a catchy hook they could sing along to. The rapper who performs the song is Lil Nas X. Not long after the success of the song, he came out as gay. Ever since, he’s been more controversial, for lack of a better term, but nothing really astonishing. That is, until now.

Lil Nas X has partnered with a company called MSCHF to alter Nike AirMax ‘97s to create ‘Satan shoes.’ They’re exactly what they sound like. Black kicks that have the Satanist pentagram logo on the laces, the verse Luke 10:18 stitched on the side, and a drop of human blood in the air bubble of the sole. They are limited to 666 pairs. The Luke 10:18 reference is, “I saw Satan fall like lightening from Heaven.” The open box has the verse on the inside of the lid and a painting of nude demons over the remainder. These shoes come after releasing a new song called, Montero, which is the rappers real name. The sexually explicit lyrics are extremely telling. One line says, ‘I’m not fazed, I’m only here to sin, if Eve ain’t in your garden, you know that you can.’ The video (which I have not watched – I’ve only seen still shots and read about it) features him sliding down a stripper pole into Hell and proceeds to give Satan a lap dance. I promise, I’m not making this up. Run a quick internet search and you’ll find it.

However, it is most infuriating to me that this rapper stated, in a January 5, 2021 interview with NPR, that children are his core audience right now. The article talks of his new children’s book, C is for Country, which features a little boy in a pink rhinestone outfit riding a horse on the cover. It goes on to speak of his surprise performances at various elementary schools. The message is that he wants children to feel accepted as they are because he never felt that way growing up. He is encouraging them to be unapologetically themselves, as he is.

A rapper, who just stated in January of this year that his target audience is children, has just released a music video in which he slides on down to Hell and gets nasty with Satan. Now, thanks to Nike, he’s wearing his allegiance to Satan on his feet. I’m having a really hard time speaking eloquently about this, friends. As a Christian mother, I am simply outraged. Hollywood’s agenda is crystal clear. They are not even attempting to hide it. Sadly, some are STILL blinded. For the sake of eternity, I am begging you to take this seriously. Hell is not a joke. Satan is not to be trivialized. We cannot afford to ignore this mockery in the name of entertainment and fashion. Souls are at stake.

They are literally after our children. They prey on the innocent. It is our responsibility to protect them and teach them the love and salvation of Jesus Christ. We must pour into them so they can abstain from the evil of this world. Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is not easy to be the parent who is constantly saying no when the rest of the world is saying yes. Believe me, I understand. However, speaking as someone whose parents were steadfast in their dedication to God and to my protection, your children will thank you one day.

The modern church doesn’t like to talk about hell because they don’t want to bum anyone out. This is a major disservice to the kingdom of God. When you truly love and care for someone, you tell them the truth, no matter what. Hell is referenced throughout the Bible. God repeatedly tells us the penalty of refusing the gift of salvation. John 3:36 says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.” Revelation 20:15 more explicitly states, “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” When we accept Jesus as our personal savior, our name is written in the book of life. By fully dedicating our lives to Him, we secure our entrance into eternal Glory.

If you want a detailed description of what an eternity in Hell entails and what the future of this Godless world looks like, Revelation 20:10 is clear. “And the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” An eternal lake of fire sounds excruciating, does it not? Hollywood makes light of hell all the time. There is no party happening in Hell. This is a pointed effort to belittle the Word of God. Satan infiltrated the world of entertainment long ago and make no mistake, he uses it to desensitize us to the evil of this world. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you like but it’s an obvious fact based on the behavior of Lil Nas X alone. The writing is on the wall. He is one example of many. Please research the artists you listen to. Look at the lyrics. You’d be shocked at the meanings behind some of the songs to which we mindlessly sing along.

Friends, I implore you to rise up and fight for your families. Be vigilant in the protection of their little eyes and ears. Fill them with the love and knowledge of their Creator. Tell them of Heaven and His promises to them. Their eternal lives depend on it.

Until next time,

Erica Lee
